Special High Skills Major Ceritification

Specialist High Skills Majors allow students in Grades 11 and 12 focus on a career path that matches their skills and interests while meeting the requirements of the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Students receive the SHSM’s seal on their diploma when they complete a specific bundle of 3 courses in the student’s chosen Environmental sector.

Explore Pelee offers, as part of the SHSM program, a one day Environmental Studies course that certifies students in the mandatory Global Positioning Systems (GPS), along with electives in Species Identification (birds, fish, plants, trees, etc) and Map and Compass use.

As mandatory certification for the SHSM Environment sector, we offer a workshop on Global Positioning Systems (GPS).  This workshop is approximately 75 minutes in length culminating in a short multiple choice test. Upon completion of the workshop, students receive a certificate to acknowledge completion of the certification.

Explore Pelee embraces an Outdoor Classroom motto, getting students out of the books and into the great outdoors.
